The North Country is the ultimate winter destination for any occasion. For the boys (and girls) who like a rustic weekend filled with snowmobiles, ice fishing and more, the North Country has you covered. Even if your lady doesn’t like the sounds of an engine revving on a cold morning, the North Country is a great destination for a romantic getaway. And, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.

Get the guys (or gals) together for a fun snowmobile weekend

Guys Weekend Extravaganza

The North Country is perfect for a weekend away in the North Woods of New Hampshire. Home to New England’s best snowmobiling, you can ride over 700 miles of perfectly groomed trails all the way to Maine, Vermont, or Quebec if you want. Rent a big rustic cabin at Partridge Cabins in Pittsburg for you and the boys. Open year-round, most of their cabins sleep two to four people and include a fully stocked kitchen, satellite TV, and a charcoal grill. What more could you ask for?

If you don’t have your own sleds then Lopstick has a special Ride and Stay Snowmobile Experience Package that includes two nights stay and a full day snowmobile rental. Spend one day cruising snowmobiles down the world-class trail system and the next out on the Connecticut Lakes ice fishing. Just walk outside your cabin door and catch lake trout, cusk, and brown trout on First Connecticut Lake.

After a long day in the cold, warm up with dinner and drinks at the Black Bear Tavern.
Of course, all that snowmobiling and fishing will work up a real appetite. No one wants to be hangry! Hop on your sled and ride up to the Black Bear Tavern in Colebrook for lunch. As Colebrook’s newest sports bar and restaurant, you’ll always find the big game on the TVs, a fully stocked bar with all your local favorites, and great food. If you’re in Colebrook, you can spend the night at the Colebrook Country Club or the Rivers Edge Inn. Both locally owned inns have direct access to nearby snowmobile trails.

Once you’re back in Pittsburg for the night, grab dinner and a cold beer at the Buck Rub Pub. This family run pub serves up delicious pub meals with friendly service that you’ll only find in the North Country. Plus, you can just ride your snowmobile there as the Pub is located directly on Snowmobile Trail #142.

Cozy up with your favorite person for a quiet weekend getaway.

Romantic Getaway with Your Sweetheart

What’s more romantic than popping a bottle of champagne next to a fireplace in a remote cabin in the woods as the snow falls softly outside? While the North Country might be known more for its adventurous outdoor activities, it is also a very romantic area for any couple looking for a little quiet time. The North Country is the perfect getaway if you’re looking to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life, shut off the cell phones, ignore your emails and just enjoy each others company.

Book a weekend at a couple’s cabin at Lopstick or Tall Timber Lodge or a suite at Parsons Street. Almost all of Lopstick’s cabins have fireplaces and are pet-friendly so you can bring your “furbaby” on your weekend getaway, too. Surrounded by the Connecticut Lakes, Tall Timber Lodge has been a North Country tradition since 1946. Splurge a little and enjoy the luxury cottages with a gas fireplace, two-person Jacuzzi, and all the modern comforts of home. Located in Colebrook, Parsons Street is a luxury B&B in a restored 1800’s historic home. Enjoy a tasty dinner for two at their in-house fine dining restaurant.

Enjoy a nice dinner on your relaxing getaway.
Enjoy a cozy cup of coffee or hot chocolate by the fireplace before going snowshoeing on the nearby trails. Wildlife is abundance in the North Woods so don’t be surprised if you see a moose or deer lurking in the woods! Warm up and enjoy a little lunch at the Moose Muck Coffee House in Colebrook. All the coffee is roasted in New Hampshire by Java Tree Gourmet. For a sweet treat after your meal, enjoy one of the many homemade baked goods.

Treat your sweetheart to a relaxing massage at Tall Timber’s Spa. The Eden Day Spa at Tall Timber is open by reservations only and offers a wide range of services for your whole body. An hour massage is just what Cupid ordered on your romantic weekend! Are you looking for something special? Perhaps you’re thinking of dropping to one knee and asking the big question? Book a private sleigh ride through the beautiful hills of East Colebrook with CJEJ Farm. Their team of Percherons will help make your day a fairytale to remember. Top your romantic weekend off with a show at the Tillotson Center. The historic theater features live stage productions, movies, concerts, and more throughout the year.

Local Tip: Bobby Lemieux has lived in the North Country his whole life. You may run into him at Lemieux Garage, a Can-Am and Ski-Doo dealership that has been serving Colebrook, NH for over 50 years.

Bobby and his wife enjoy taking leisurely snowmobile rides to scenic spots like Sugar Hill, Dixville Notch, Diamond Ridge and Garfield Falls. They enjoy looking for NH wildlife, like moose and deer along the snowmobile trails.
